Time card Management RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just signed up for SharePoint online hosting. I use WSS 3.0.  I uploaded the TimecardManagement.stp onto SharePoint. I like how it look. What I am mainly looking for is to have something for my employees to punch in/out. See their hours worked during the current week and previous weeks.  I would love it if I can also create something for them to see their schedule.  Like I add their hours to a workflow calendar or something like that and be able to see the chart of employees and the hours highlighted in the "Daily" calendar.  When I approve the schedules, the employees will be able to see their own schedule in their website under their user id.

I do not want to use any type of "Project" I just want them to be able to punch in/out without having to choose anything.  Just click "Punch In" then "Punch Out."

Is that possible? Can anyone give me assistance with this? I am not tech savy.

    Thank you, Amber

  • Hey Amber,

In that case, create a "Custom List". Add the necessary columns including your own "Start Time" and "End Time" column. You can later create a calendar view that will look just like the "Calendar List" you created. You just don't have the advanced options like meeting workspace, repeating event. But reading from your posts, I think you don't need those.

    Hope that helps...

  • Hey Amber,

I think you already have the "Punch In" and "Punch Out" feature running.

Do you already have a calendar in your site to schedule your employees? If so, what's the next thing you're trying to do?

  • Yes, there is "Punch In" and "punch Out" but you have to choose a project and a task in order to punch in/out.   I do not want my employees to choose a project or task in order to punch in/out. How do I edit it to remove the Projects and tasks requirement?

As for the calendar, yes there is a calendar but it was not what I was thinking about.  I need a type of form or something that will let me create their schedule and when I save their shifts, I can see the chart to see how many people is working what hours shifts.  After I verify the schedule after playing with it, it will become available to my employees to view in their home page.

I have this type of scheduling and punch in/out with another software online and I would absolutely love to have it here in SharePoint. My employees love having that. It is so much easier for them.

I have Share Point Designer 2007 installed on my computer but have not really figured out how it works so I have been playing around on SharePoint itself.

Does this mean that you are using the *Microsoft* SharePoint Online service ?

  • Actually, I am not sure.  It is through apps4rent.com that I signed up for so I do not know if it is actually Microsoft.  I thought all SharePoint program is considered Microsoft SharePoint.  I do know that I have WSS 3.0 for sure.

The product itself is developed by Microsoft, but others can buy the product and provide service to you. Microsoft provides that service too. I think that's what Mike was asking. You're getting service from a 3rd party. Here's the link to Microsoft's service, in case you're interested.

When you create a calendar, that should automatically create form pages for you to create/edit schedule. What happens after you create your calendar list?

  • I think I have the Calendar mostly figured out. I have just two things I cannot figure out how to get rid of.  One is when I add new item in the Calendar, there is few columns that I do not know how to get rid of.  See below. I only want the first three and the rest gone but when I went into edit column, there was no option to delete those columns.(sorry it's so huge. I tried to make it smaller.

The other issue I have is I do not want my employees to see the Manager section in the Quick Launch when they login using their user id. How do I limit it to managers only?  I am still struggling with the Punch IN/Out.  How do I get the web part to not go to the linked site to punch in or out.  I do not want to create any projects or tasks for my employees to choose from.  Just click Punch IN or Punch Out.  Is it possible?  I tried to remove the project and task column but then the web part punch in/out had an error message so obviously I cannot get it to work without it as I am aware of.

This is from the TimeCard Management main page as a web part. It will not let me paste the Punch In/Out button.

You are not currently punched in to work on a project.

After I click the Punch In/Out button, it will take me to a Time Log page. How do I get it to NOT do this? If I absolutely cannot get it to stay on the same page after clicking the Punch In button, then how do I get rid of the projects and tasks column? Again, it will not let me copy/paste the buttons of "OK" and "Cancel"

  • You could try editing the (odd looking) post.

As the poster of it you have the ability to edit it. (I - as a Moderator - do too but in this case I wouldn't know where to start (!) as I don't know what it is supposed to look like)

(Don't forget the HTML edit option after the normal Edit button - you might need it)
