Supporting resolutions

    Question

  • Are there any plans to patch in support for apps at 1024x600? What is the reason you need to have at least 1024x768 resolution to launch apps from the metro screen?

@jahxp: Your 1024x600 netbook will run but Metro Style apps won’t run.  The minimum required for Metro Style apps is vertical resolution of 768 pixels.

  • Besides plugging in an external monitor, anyone know of a workaround?  Surely there's a reg entry.  :)

  • If you have an intel videocard (like GMA950) you might try this: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=80812 It will enabled native higher resolutions, and will compress them to fit on the screen. It won't look that good but at least the apps will work.

By the way: There should be an error message that states why the app won't run. This forum is the only place where I could find why the apps (except for Control Panel fortunately) won't work.

  • is this purely a 'this is how we want it' decision by MS? because here is the weird thing: if i change the resolution of my netbook to 1024x768 and then open all the metro apps i want, go back to 1024x600 and then try to run them - they work just fine...

This is what I want to know. What is the actual reason they have restricted the apps to certain resolutions?
