Log on with SSL updated RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am adding SSL to a website.  The site still has the logon of Frontpage extensions.  If I log directly to the site after installing SSL, will I have a problem, or will it just default to the https from the http?

    Thanks

  • http and https are how you get to the page, unrelated to what the page does.

You won't be automatically directed to https unless you hosting company sets that up, or you do.

But I'm not sure what you mean by "the login of FrontPage extensions"?   Do you mean publishing via FrontPage extensions?  Or...?

  • Hi Kathy,

The server has front page extensions on it.  The site is currently without SSL. I am installing SSL.  What I am wondering, is when I log onto the server via EW, will I need to change the log on from http://www to https://www or will it do that automatically?  On a practical level, when I log on to "recent sites" with my http://www will I get an error?

    thanks,

    Peter

  • Hi Kathy,

I will most likely wing it...  I was just trying to see how it might change set before hand. I thought there might be a simple answer.

    Thanks,

    Peter

  • A simple answer would require someone who had any memory of using FrontPage Extensions to edit a site, and how it changed (if it did) when SSL was applied.  That would be unlikely. :)
