SQL server error:40 RRS feed

  • When I wanna  to connect to server 2008 this message appears

    A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

    after that I go to sql configuration manager and seen the  sql server (Express) and

    sql agent and browser are stopped   and the option to start is disabled  

    what is the solution ? 

    please help me

  • Hi,

    you should make sure that the SQL Server service is running and that you're connecting to the right server (that means the right name of the database server). For example, if you're connecting to a database on your local machine you can use the following server name: (local)/SQLEXPRESS.
