Head tracking for flight simulator RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I wonder if the Kinect can be used to implement head tracking for a flight simulator.

I would like to get position and orientation information for a head close to the screen (about 50 cm from monitor screen).

Can this be done? Or is it to close to screen?

    Thanks.

  • 50 cm is definitely too close.  The SDK's limit is 85cm.  Below that, the parallax between the lens/emitter is too high.  There is discussion within Microsoft as to whether they will allow us direct access to that ("bad") data, but currently for any depth less than 85 cm the SDK returns a depth value of zero ('0').

  • Thanks for the quick answer.

But I suppose you mean 85 cm here. But still not close enough for me.
