    hi,

    how can i make streaming video in asp.net. instead of dowloading the content, user should be able to watch the video or the live content in the website itself. even i want to know how can i upload my video files to microsoft media server.

    streaming audio and video is a service - nothing to do with aspnet.

    if running a windows server, there is a component called "Windows Media Services"  or something like that

    yes. i was able to stream my video using "Windows Media Services" . it was working fine.

    is there any way to protect those videos. i  mean only a registered user should be given access. one more thing, how can i calculate the amount of time spent by the user on watching those videos. for ex, consider like this. the user will watch/play a video for 5 min. again he will watch some other video for another 5 min. i want to get the total amount spent by the user. i.e, 10 mins.

    Don't know about the time restraint.

    to protect the files, you would store them outside the root of your web app. That way nobody can just put a url pointing to the files. 

    To manage user access - look into asp membership  roles
