WCF RESTful JSON Service RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Folks,

I have just inherited an asmx Ajax based JSON service and I want to update it and upgrade it to WCF at the same time.

I have followed some blogs on the Net about making it run in WCF and that worked fine, but I want to change the way the service is architexted and bring it up to date .NET 3.5 (Azure) or .NET 4.0

I was wondering what was the best way to do this, I have been looking at some tutorials on Channel 9 about the WCF REST Starter Toolkit and it looks very good, but with the release of .NET 4.0 I was wondering if there was another way I should do this?

Any suggestiosn would be greatful, I am WCF REST noob :)

Things to note, it must be an AJAX service and support JSON format.

  • I wrote a  couple of blog posts a while back on getting jQuery and WCF talking via JSON.  This wasn't specifically for a RESTful service, but most of it should apply:

    Hope that helps

  • Hi Iain,

Thanks for the response, excellent post, very good read!

I am going to try have a bit of a play around with the WCF REST Starter Kit, from watching Web Casts on Endpoint TV it looks like this kit gives you all of what you need out of the box for RESTful services, but I need to verify this.

Hopefully with a mixture of this and your blog posts it will set me on the right road.

Had sort of hoped someone might have done this before!!
