Install Exchange 2010 in an existing Exchange 2013 Organization RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Our IT infra consisted of Exchange 2010. All the traces were manually removed and a ADSI cleanup was performed. After this, we installed Exchange 2013. Now, only Exchange 2013 exists in the Organization. At this point of time, is it possible to install Exchange 2010 into this Organization? The initial searches that I had performed reveals that it is no longer possible. What can I do if I want to install Exchange 2010 again in the Infrastructure?

If I remove the existing Exchange 2013 completely, will it be possible to install Exchange 2010 back again? A quick response from someone is highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • NO. Only exchange 2013 uninstall will not help, because schema has already been extended. You'll have to perform authoritative restore of AD to the point where Exchange 2010 related footprints were cleaned up. Basically, you need to make sure that AD has no knowledge of Exchange 2013 related Schema.

Once you've AD in that state then you can first introduce Exchange 2010 server in your environment and then Exchange 2013 server.

  • Hi FriendzKnight II,

Try to perform exchange 2010 recovery using the recovery switch. Build new exchange 2010 server and restore the exchange 2010 from the backup using recovery switch.

This will work to get back exchange 2010 in your existing exchange 2013 enivornment

  • Hi,

You won't be able to install Exchange 2010 in pure Exchange 2013 environment due to schema extension. Answer to your question is 'NO'.
