Login failed using SQL Login for Maint Plan in SQL 2016 Web Edition RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a number of SQL 2016 servers that are controlled by a central ops box for all the backups etc, but for each job that runs, we are getting:

Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Password did not match that for the login provided. [CLIENT: <local machine>]

    Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 8.

The job runs and backups are performed, but this error is nagging me.  I see that it was supposed to be fixed in SP2 CU5, so in our most recent patch window, we updated all our servers to SP2 CU7 which should have taken care of it, but our servers are not listed in the Applies To: section of the fix article. 4486936. That is right...we are running SQL 2016 Web Edition.

Why does the CU not fix this issue and is there another means for taking care of this besides using Windows Auth for the Maintenance connections?
