  • This question has a few ways to respond.

The first thing to mention is that all Windows Phone development as we know it has just recently totally changed. This fall when Microsoft rolls out the new "Windows 7 Phone" operating system, it will only run applications designed specifically for it, using either XNA or Silverlight as the development medium. It also currently only supports writing code for this in C#, although VB support is coming according to Microsoft.

So this means if you were to write a Windows Mobile application right now (which would target the current generation of Windows Mobile OS), that program will not install or run on the new 7 platform. So if you plan to have this application be available for any decent amount of time, you should really just write it for Windows 7 phone.

If you were to target the current generation of WinMobile, then you would need to use the Compact Framework, which is a smaller version of the full framework that runs on Windows. To specifically answer your question, no, you can't "convert" it to a mobile app. You can certainly reuse SOME code and logic between a desktop app and WinMobile, but the vast majority of it will be different especially the UI.
