HCK RTM Client (for Windows 8.1) Installation Fails with Error Code 1603 on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 RRS feed

  • Hello,

    I am hoping that someone would be able to help me out with this issue.

    I am unable to install the HCK Client on a Windows 8 or a Windows 8.1 Machine. I have tested this on a 32 Bit Machine. I keep getting the following error - "System Error 1603: Fatal error occurred during installation".

    This error occurs while the following installation step is in progress: “Please wait while Windows Configures the Windows Driver Testing Framework (WDTF) Runtime Libraries” is in progress".

    I contacted with this issue. However, the solutions they gave me are the ones which I have already followed before I contacted them.

    The Test Computers I am using have the following Configurations:

    Processor - Intel ® Core ™ i7-3770K CPU @ 3.5 GHz (x64 Based Processor)

    RAM - 8 GB (3.48 GB Usable)

    HDD Space - 2TB

    Test Signing is enabled.

    The OS Variants I am using are as follows:

    Windows 8 -

    Windows 8 Pro N 32 bit Build 9200

    Windows 8 Pro N 64 bit Build 9200

    Windows 8.1 -

    Windows 8.1 Pro N 32 bit Build 9600

    Windows 8.1 Pro N 64 bit Build 9600

    I have tried out the solution given in the the thread ""

    This has not helped with the issue.

    The Version of WHCK I am using is 8.100.26011.

    Please let me know if there are any other details you need to help solve this issue.

  • Hi Greeshma,

    Even i faced such situations many times. The only thing I used to do reinstallation of OS. but be sure that your controller is working fine means the hck client should install on atleast one of your setup.

    The Windows HCK Client installs on a Windows 7 test machine without issues.

    Also, I have tried to re-install the OS a few times. This does not seem to help.

  • Hi Greeshma,

    If you are testing on N SKU, please install "Media Pack" before installing HCK client.

    Here's where you can the media pack for Windows 8.1:

    At this point, this is what I recommend:

    1. Clean install Windows 8.1 on the test system

    2. Install the media pack from the above location on the test system

    3. Install HCK Client

    Please let us know if this doesn't work for you.

    Installing the Media Pack resolved the issue. I currently have the set up running the Tests on Windows 8.
