Is it possible to open links in the Task pane in word 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there a way to open links in the task pane (Word 2013) rather than opening in a new window in the browser?

Even if I specify target="_self" the link opens up in a new window. (using VS 2013)

    <a target="_self" href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=276812">Find more samples online...</a>

It looks like the only way to make the task pane open links in itself is to use an iFrame, which is not ideal.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

You may not accomplish what you want. The UI of the app is provided by an HTML file that can optionally provide JavaScript programming logic.and every you open the web link , opening in a new window in the browser

  • It is possible to open links within task pane apps. You should open the manifest file, go to the "App Domains" tab and add the url of the page you want to open.

That way, when you try to open that link, it will open within the app, but not in the new browser window.

Also, pay attention to which APIs you are using. Alert is a browser API and that might be the reason why it doesn't work in Office app.

  • Hi Ognjen,

If the link is inside the document, is it possible to make the link open inside the task pane ( right hand pane) programatically?

    Thanks,

    Josh
