Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition?

    Question

  • Hi All,

Do you know when the express editions for VS 2010 will be available? I tried searching the MSFT website but was unable to find it.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • When it is done.  They'll probably make 2010.

  • I guess not now, until it finishes its beta releases.
In the mean time beta is always available for all !

  • What could be ready in 2010 Beta1?

  • at this moment there are only Team and professional beta available. They seem to set to expire in Jan 2010.

I have yet to find the express versions. I like what I saw about lambda and other productvity improvments in 2010. hopefully the free version will include those as well.

if any one find any free 2010 version before 2010, I would appreciate a note here

  • One possible reason: People who may not be able to afford Professional or higher (which may include a lot of 2008 Standard edition customers, since that is going away) may want to see if they can live with only the Express edition, rather than using the Ultimate beta and then finding out they started using features they can't afford.

And if you start using features in the beta version of the Express edition, that aren't included in the final?  Beta software, even Microsoft beta software, is one step removed from a virus.  If you install the beta, you have to be prepared to format your system drive and reinstall your OS to remove the beta and install the RTM.  Using beta software can be dangerous.  The software developer can find major problems with the software without obligation to the user, who relinguished any recourse rights when he offered to evaluate the software.
