forgot to backup master key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi experts,

I have moved my ssrs from sql 2012 to sql 2016…

What I did is: backup ReportServer and ReportServerdb and I restored them in sql 2016...

Problems: - the old instance is gone, and I didn’t backup the master key…

    Possible solutions?

To be honest it was just 5 .rdl I could even create them from scratch… The only “sensitive” data, was the conection strings I think…

Is there any way I can retrieve those 5 .rdl and I can recreate the connection strings?

  • In your reports folder, (http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx) click on the chevron to the right of each report, select properties and security. You can enter the password there again.

With the master key gone all of this sensitive data is gone and you will need to re-enter it. If you have shared data sources you can edit them the same way.
