  • There is no built-in lightweight "text" control that has a Background property in Windows Store Apps but you could put a TextBlock in a Grid and set the Background of the Grid to achieve the same effect:

    <Grid Background="Yellow">
     <TextBlock>Text...</TextBlock>
    </Grid>

    NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.

  • There is a TextBlock control for displaying small amounts of text: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/apps/windows.ui.xaml.controls.textblock.aspx

    <TextBlock>Hello!</TextBlock>
