  • Hi,

I am trying to create a textbox to reference the value in a matrix. I tried using reportitems!Textbox1.value

  • Hello,

    Explanation for my my post.

The design of the matrix will be as

    Header                            | Column Group         |
    ---------------------------------------------------------
    Row Group1 |Row Group2 | Detail Value (txtDet)|
    ---------------------------------------------------------

Out side of the matrix I place a textbox and the value expression for the textbox will be ReportItems!txtDet.Value

When you preview the report it looks like below.

    Header                             | Type1 | Type 2 |
    ----------------------------------------------------
    Group1Val1 | Group2 Val1 | 10.00  | 5.00     |
    Group1Val2 | Group2 Val2 | 15.00  | 20.00   |
    ----------------------------------------------------

And when considered the textbox out side of the scope of the matrix as the value expression is ReportItems!txtDet.Value to which value it should either 10.00,5.00,15.00 or 20.00.

So the referencing textbox and the referred textbox should be in the same scope then we can have the value of the referred cell.

    Hope now its clear now...

  • Hello,

Report item expressions can only refer to other report items within the same grouping scope or a containing grouping scope. Are the both textboxes in the same group.

    Hope helpful...

Can anyone give a good explanation as to why this is implemented?
Soemtimes I have to use custom code just to get around it.
