display encrypted email message RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, we would like encrypt the certain email messages at exchange server ( including exchange online), once the encrypted message is clicked on at Outlook Web App, we would like Outlook addin to be triggered to decrypt the message dynamically. If user is choosing to reply the message and send out, we would like to encrypt the message at the point of sending, could we achieve that with latest Outlook Addin? I am reading the outlook addin,. I didn't see any API for mail reading and sending call back event.  Or Am I missing sth here?

Thanks very much for your insights.

  • Hi Pingzhong,

The Office add-in is used to interact with data in the Office application. And it is different with Outlook object model.

For example, in a read scenario, the Outlook add-ins that are activated in the Reading Pane or read inspector in Outlook when the item match the rules.

For encrypting the message, we can use Body.getAsync then encrypt and write the message back with Body.setAsync.

Here are some helpful articles for your reference:
Create Outlook add-ins for read forms

Create Outlook add-ins for compose forms

  • Is there a reason you aren't using the existing S/Mime encryption?
