time zone update for sql srver 2005 notification services RRS feed

  • Question

  • Several of our SQL Server installations have Notification Services installed, I'm looking at the instructions in document: #931815 but I have a couple of questions.  I don't understand exactly what to do in Resolution step 1. How do I stop event provider, generator service and all distributor services ? I don't see that anything is running. Would Notification Services need to be configured? If it's not can I just run the script?

I also don't understand step 5, what does the main database mean?

Thanks very much for any help.

  • The SSNS components (event provider, generator, and distributor) run as a windows service. It starts with NS$ in the list of windows services for the machine.

The "main" database is the database where the subscriber and subscriber devices database object exist. Unless you opted to create the SSNS objects in an existing database, the main database is <instancename>NSMain. If you created the objects in an existing database, look to the appropriate schema.
