Query FAST Search Server 2010 within HTML5/JavaScript Metro Application RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

The scenario is that I have a website with SharePoint 2010 / FAST Search Server 2010 already installed and running online and I would like to create a Windows 8 Metro application sing HTML5 / JavaScript which queries this FAST Search server for the content existing in SharePoint.

    I have read:

Walkthrough: Querying FAST Search Server From a Client Application

but this is for C# language and I would prefer to use JavaScript if possible.

If I just focus on converting the C# it would seem the GetXmlString() and GetFqlString() could be easily converted but the problem is with the function which executes the query.  It uses a proxy and credentials to access the FAST Search service, where as with JavaScript the only way I know of is using AJAX and the WinJS.xhr() function to send XML data to http://SERVER/_vti_bin/search.asmx

Given that, here are the questions:

    1. Is it possible to query FAST Search Server using JavaScript in a Metro app

    2. What are the advantages of querying using C# vs JavaScript

    3. If it is possible, can you provide some example code for executing a query, given an XML String which has the FqlString format.
