How does the Windows Connection Manager on Win8 metro screen get the signal quality from SIM card?

    Question

  • As we known, Connection Mananger is also exists on Metro screen. I want to know how does the Connection Manager changes the signal quality of an mobile broadband connection when its signal quality changes.

Does Connection Manager listen to an unsolicited AT command report from device: ^RSSI? Or query the signal quality periodically from device, if so, what's the period?

Is there any difference among Windows7, Windows8 Desktop and Windows8 Metro? Especially for Win8 Metro, will the Connection Manager query SIM signal quality not so frequently for the sake of power saving for devices?

Answers

  • Windows 8 simplifies connection experience with its native support, making status and control of network connections for Wi-Fi and mobile broadband--consistent and easy to use.   Application developers can be assured that connectivity experience is tailored for the  end-user and there is no need to access signal levels or to manage connections from the app itself.
