VPN Gateway intermittent connectivity RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have established a VPN Gateway by using our on premises Router

Cisco 3900 everything looks fine and we can easily ping both end ( on-premises and Azure )The virtual instance

are deployed are for evaluation purposes and does not have enough communication with on premises servers, After  an hour i again took a RDP of Azure virtual instance and tried to ping my same on premises subset but i cannot reach my on premises network.

I checked my Azure Router configuration and found that the VPN Gateway status was changed from connected to connecting after that i tried to ping from my router and suddenly my Azure VPN Router status got changed and i can ping both ways again.

My concern is that does this is a normal behavior or it need some trouble shooting .

  • Hello,

Thank you for posting your question here.

The connection should remain connected but there could be situations where it disconnects temporarily.

    How often does it disconnect?
Is it after a period of inactivity or is it every hour?

If it continues to happen and you can correlate to the events to a variable such as time or activity, that would provide some clues about the configuration.

    Regards,
