Support for Data Events in WCF Data Services RRS feed

  • Question

  • There are many scenarios where a server/service side change in data should notify clients about the change. For instance, imagine a books information aggregation service that gets data from feeds from publishers and book sellers. In turn client apps connect to the aggregation service to get data and present it to end users. An app may want to subscribe to an event so that it gets notified when a new book by author X is released.

Do WCF Data Services / OData standard natively support such data events?

If not, are there any add-on data event layers / protocols available?

Are there any best practices if one was to create such data events framework on top of WCF Data Services?

  • Hi Chetan,

I do not think there is any such thing in OData standard natively.

  • Hi Chetan,

I don't think that WCF Data Services supports it natively.

I did this kind of logic (change tacking and notification) in a previous application. I implemented it at the Entity Framework level by overriding the SaveChanges method. See this post.

    I hope this helps,
