How to open an xml file in Word 2007 without xml table / tags stuff appearing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I'm saving the content of a webform to xml files, using very basic xml as the code pasted below shows, no DOM or schema. When the xml files are retrieved from our webserver they need to be opened in MS Word 2007 and this works fine except that the xml tags are all visible so it reads as:
    <FirstName Bunny FirstName>
    <LastName Bugs LastName>
    etc, you get the picture.

    In a way this is OK as it's neat and uniform (uniformity in job applications submitted is a main aim of this exercise) but I'd like to know if there's a different approach I could use which would mean the tags weren't visible. I'd be happy to write some VBA or VB to get around this, or to improve the way in which the xml is written in the first instance, but I need some pointers about what approach to take.

    Thanks,

    Louise

    xml from file:

    fwrite($filehandle, "<xml>");
                    fwrite($filehandle, "<Application>
                            <FirstName>$FirstName</FirstName>
                            <LastName>$LastName</LastName>
                            <EmailAddress>$EmailAddr</EmailAddress>
                            <Office>$Office</Office>
                            <Quals1>$Quals1</Quals1>
                            <PlaceOfStudy1>$Place1</PlaceOfStudy1>
                            <Grades1>$Grades1</Grades1>
                            <YearOb1>$YearOb1</YearOb1>
                            <Reasons>$Reasons</Reasons>
                            <ApplicationDate>$ApplicationDate</ApplicationDate>
                    </Application>");
                    fwrite($filehandle, "</xml>");
