NK.exe peaking the CPU usage RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I recently started a "Performance Monitor" session for retrieving some information on how much CPU, memory, etc. my program uses. Beside my process I also added the total processor time into trace.

On the total processor time something strange happens. The total CPU usage rises up to 90 % for approx. 1,5 seconds and then falls back to "normal" usage. It does not occure onyl once. It rather occures quite periodically (approxi. after 80 seconds). I therefore watched the CPU usage of other processes in my configuration. I found out that the peaking process is "NK.exe". This is quite strange to me? Do you have a hint on that? What action could trigger NK.exe to rise CPU usage?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

  • Is it CE6/CE7? If so, except to user mode drivers, all drivers/file system drivers are kernel mode (NK.EXE) so any extreme long driver execution time such as busy loop could ramp up the CPU time of NK.EXE
