Windows 8 Developer Preview English, 32-bit (x86) Install Fails

    Question

  • I've downloaded the  "Windows 8 Developer Preview English, 32-bit (x86)" 2.8GB from Microsoft. However, it won't install both in the VPC or from DVD I created. It fails without any specific error code and just says "Something happened."

Does anybody has similar experience? Can anybody help? Please.

Developer Preview will not run in Virtual PC, but it will run in VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation 8.

Did you check the SHA1 hash of your download?

If the hash is good, maybe your DVD burn was bad.

  • You cannot run the Windows Developer preview in any version of Virtual
PC, it just wont work due to some incompatibilities.  If you want to run
it in a virtual machine, you'll have to use another virtualization
    product than VPC.

As for installing from DVD, can you describe the problem a bit more?
