Server Setup? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am not sure where i should post this question, here or in another forum.
I am trying to find out what i need in order to setup a server. The server will be used to store data in an MS SQL database and to have a webpage up and runnign. A backup system should be connected to the system so that no data is lost in case of a server crash. Now the question is, what exacly do i need?

    Windows Server 2008,
    MS SQL 2008,
    A strong firewall (Any ideas?)

2 Server PC's (One for the server and one for the backup system)

    All help is appreciated.

  • Hi Piffo,

There are many conditions, it's not so easy.

You can go straight ahead and put it all as virtual machines. In that case, you can without any problem do the backup (in a way that you will copy their VHD). You will not need a second hardware (or PC/Server).

    That would mean

one Windows server, Hyper-V installed (hyper-v is a role)

Install a Virtual Machine with Windows Server on which you install MS SQL
