Windows Store App: Designer fails to load RRS feed

  • Question

  • After months of flawless operation, Windows Store apps, when loaded in Visual Studio 2012, the designer fails to load.

The error message is below.  The program builds fine.  WPF Windows apps designer is unaffected, as is the Phone.  Just the WinRT app.  And all of a sudden too.  I have been working through Petzold, and all the examples load fine until now.  What could have happened?  Thanks.

    System.OperationCanceledException

The registration of the app package required by the designer took too long to complete and was canceled. Reload the designer to try again.

  • I performed a Repair of Visual Studio, and it recovered subsequently.

Takes quite a long time to perform, and requires a reboot.

The only thing that seems suspect is the updates to Visual Studio that happened over the holidays.
