  • Question

  • Hi,

While adding webservice referrence there is an advanced option which allows adding reference as .Net 2.0 standrads. Whats the difference between this and normal reference in VS2008 ?

  • You should always add a Service Reference. Adding a web reference uses the old ASMX web services. Microsoft now considers ASMX web services to be "legacy technology". All new development of web service clients and servers should be done using WCF.

WCF is Web Services. They are not two separate things.
Use WCF for All New Web Service Development, instead of legacy ASMX or obsolete WSE
Use File->New Project to create Web Service Projects
