Is speech recognition still an active project at MS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have used speech recognition for many years, since Win95. Now I use it on my new Surface Pro with Win8.  I use both the Control aspect of it and dictation as well. Haven't used a keyboard for years, hundreds of thousands of words w/o a keyboard. Yes, it has a way to go. But it's better than most people imagine, given certain constraints. I was surprised to find that the simple mic built into the edge of the SPro works pretty well; I used Seinhauser headset before. It is far better than Dragon, and Siri and others aren't even in the same class (they upload voice spectra to translate it!).

My question is whether this field is still under active development at MS or not. Just as one example, speech macros, which I used regularly, seem no longer to exist; they are still on the site but they don't download, and the dates imply they are long dead and in rigor mortis. Does anyone at MS or otherwise have any recent status info on development in this field?
