How to control a webcam using c#? RRS feed

  • Hi,
     I am starting a project in which i need to control a webcam using c# & then do some image processing on captured images. I am very new to this concept. So can any one tell me from where to begin this project as i don know anything about it. I am no expert in this field so kindly reply me in simple way so that i can understand it.

  • Microsoft does not provide any support for capture using .NET.  There is an opensource LGPL'd project here which wraps DirectShow:


    It has its own samples in C# for capture and has its own forums here:


    Use them for further questions on this topic.

    the sessions and keynotes show Silverlight 4.0 doing video capture and still image capture in c# with SIlverlight.

    Now the thing i want to see is will this alos work on the desktop runtime..

    but to the OP if you want to go get the Silverlight 4.0 beta from http://www.silverlight.net/getstarted/silverlight-4-beta/

  • SL 4.0 is a beta product, so as of right now, MS does not support video capture using .NET.

    dshow has been around for many years and the dshow.net wrapper is mature and stable.  Samples illustrating capture are available for dshow.net.
