Character Movement in 2D Games with DirectX RRS feed

  • I've never made a game before and am wondering what is the proper way to program character movement as far as GPU usage is concerned.  Should the character be a bitmap or a class of geometry primitives re-rendered to each frame or should it be a sprite?  An example game would be something like angry birds.  For this would you use Direct2D/XAML (no supported sprite in Direct2D) or use Direct3D or just use C#/XAML with animation functions?  I've made animations with javascript/html before which seems to be what the latter option would be like, but then I'd be stuck doing all of the physics and collisions and such.
