[Phone] Theme aware Splash Screen like the 8.1 calendar app

    Question

  • Hi.

The new Windows Phone 8.1 calendar app has two splash screen options. When a light theme is chosen, the icon is displayed in black. When a dark theme is chosen, the icon is displayed in white. See the following screenshots for a visualization:

    Light theme: http://i.imgur.com/9VznJR9.png

How can I achieve the same with a universal app of my own? If I leave the background color of the splash screen blank, I have a light background for a light theme and a dark background for the dark theme, which is nice and wanted. The icon however, is only displayed in either black or white, since it uses the .png image that is set by me and I can't think of a good way to make it display like the calendar icon. These are my splash screen results:

    Light theme: http://i.imgur.com/JLnTqnH.png

    Any help would be appreciated!

If we look closely, the calendar icon is 'hardcoded' in the specified color. This way, it seems like the color is theme aware.

If we apply the same effect to the sample splash rectangle, it will look like this (which is kind of what I wanted):
