Create project server 2013 project from external sharepoint list item? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm trying to automatically create a PWA project from list item data in a SharePoint 2013 list on another site within the same farm WITHOUT using Visual Studio. I also don't have the option to buy third-party add-ons to do the job.  The list is on a subsite in the root of the application that contains PWA.  Available tools are SharePoint Designer 2013 and any client-side scripting option.  I can't figure out how to cross the divide between PWA and the external SharePoint site.  I can sort of imagine how Powershell might make this work but would want to figure out how to trigger the PS script to run when a new item was created in the SharePoint list.

I've searched and searched for solutions, but have not been able to find any that either pull all the elements together or that don't require VS or creation of custom timer jobs.

Anyone know of code or solutions that exist?  Thanks very much!

  • Hello,

Firstly if you want this event driven on the item being created in the list you will either need to look at workflow or look at custom dev to develop a custom application that hooked into the SharePoint events. As you have stated no Visual Studio I guess custom dev is not an option which just leaves SPD workflow. PowerShell / scripting could be an option but would need to run on a scheduled task / on demand rather than event driven from the SharePoint list item. If SPD workflow is the option then this could be possible using an HTTP web service call to create the project in PWA using the Project Server REST API https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj669022.aspx.
