Performance tier of the storage account from Standard to Premium Standard Storage Account RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Sumanth,

Please correct me if I am wrong. Omar wants to change the storage account performance tier from Standard to Premium Storage Account. He is not talking about changing storage account type of the managed disk.

Can we change the performance tier of the storage account from Standard to Premium Standard Storage Account?

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

  • No - you cannot.

Once you provision a storage account, its performance tier cannot be changed.

If you work with unmanaged disks, then you would need to copy the blob (vhd file) from one storage account to another. You would also need to delete/re-create the VM if the disk you are working with is the OS disk (with data disks, you can simply detach the old one and attach the new one)

With managed disks, you can change the performance tier of the disk if you stop/deallocate the  VM
