If you are using an MSDN license (which I presume you are in order to have Visual Studio) then I would recommend getting SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition using your MSDN. It has full features of SQL Server and the install will also give you Management Studio. It will also work with Visual Studio SP1.
You could also get SQL Server 2008 R2 if you wanted... it would work just as well... but I'd always go for the newest thing.
If you don't have MSDN (which would make me concerned as to how you have Visual Studio Ultimate) then you need to download SQL Server 2012 Express with Management Studio. This can be easily found with a Bing or Google search.

One option is to you can download SSMS from here
http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=7593
Other option for getting SSMS is to install SQL server 2008 R2 express edition it is free and gives you SSMS feature

In addition to Kevin notes, you can install SSDT for VS2010. Please see this link:

I did as you mentioned in option 1. when i run it says " not a win32 application".
This implies you are trying to download the 64bit version and you do not have a 64bit machine.
Can you download and install the x86 version?
If you already have the x86 version then use the Link provided above by Shanky_621.

I do not have IIS on my machine. which is windows xp.version 2002.service pack 3.Thursday, August 22, 2013 2:29 PM

You need to download the x86 (32bit) version. The version you have is x64 (64bit) which will not work.Thursday, August 22, 2013 2:30 PM

did the following. But did not not see IIS.
- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
- Click Internet Information Services (IIS) and then click Details.

Sorry but no-one will help you if you don't take our advice and try all suggestions.
I have repeatedly asked that you try to download the x86 32bit version because it seems you are trying to install a 64bit version on your system which is incompatible.
Thanks

Hi,
You need to go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=29062
And then press Download.
When presented with options you need to scroll down and choose:
ENU\x86\SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe
This is the 32bit one that you want (database engine and Management Studio)

Hi
I did as you said. Now I am getting following error.
TITLE: Upgrade to SQL Server 2012
------------------------------There are validation errors on this page. Click OK to close this dialog box. Review errors at the bottom of the setup page, then provide valid parameters or click Help for more information.
------------------------------
BUTTONS:OK

Could you provide a screenshot. Also, it says "Upgrade to SQL Server 2012"... why are you running an upgrade? I didn't think you had SQL Server installed... an upgrade would imply that you do? Either that or you've already got SQL Server installed?

does any of the visual studio express or ultimate comes with sqlserver or do I need to download sqlserver separately?Thursday, August 22, 2013 7:25 PM
-
I don't believe so, no. I have Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and Visual Studio 2012 Professional on my laptop and neither came with SQL Server. I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Express separately on my laptop with no issues at all.

But the problem is I am using windows 8.That is the reason I am not being successful in downloading all these.Thursday, August 22, 2013 7:36 PM

I am also using Windows 8... therefore that is irrelevant to the situation.
I think you need to contact Microsoft Support directly.
In order to legally license Visual Studio you must have a MSDN subscription and this comes with free support calls.
Sorry we couldn't seem to help.
