SSRS - Parameter as a Text Field RRS feed

  • Question

  • My report shows data for companies.

I need to have a parameter (CompanyName) that:

    a) is a text field (not a drop-down), and users can type in it,

    b) the user will type in a portion of the name, and data will be listed for all companies with that string in their name.  For example, if "MyCompany" is typed in, the report will show data for "MyCompany Inc.", "MyCompany Europe", "MyCompany Industries", etc.

    Possible?  Thanks.

  • Hi pl80,

Thanks for your post and other’s reply.

You can creata report dataset using the query string like below:
    select company from tbl
    where company like  @CompanyName+‘%’

And then drop the relevant field to the tablix in your report, after the designing step complete, you can run your report, type in the company name in the parameter textbox, and click View Report button, the report would works just as you expected.

    Thanks,
