  • Question

  • When I register a boot-time and persistent version of my filters as outlined here:

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-US/1d412488-9afb-4d25-8154-f708170fc271/let-me-know-how-do-i-add-boottime-callouts

    I notice that the GUIDs for the boot-time filters appear twice in the registry, in the following locations ({Guid} being the GUID of my boot-time filter):

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE\Parameters\Policy\BootTime\Filter\{Guid}

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE\Parameters\Policy\Persistent\Filter\{Guid}

    Whereas the persistent filters only show in the Persistent\Filter path.

    Is this expected behavior or is the proposed method of registering both boot-time and persistent filters in the link above incorrect?  Why are the objects stored twice?

  • This is by design.  All boot-time objects are persistent.  Not all persistent objects are boot-time.  You need to add another persistent filter only if you want the filter to remain effective immediately after boot-time.

    Hope this helps,
