Low latency Audio on Windows Mobile 6.53 RRS feed

  • Hi,

    I am currently evaluating different mobile platforms for low latency audio processing. Aspects such as available CPU power for signal processing, latency and development support are important criterions.

    I started with Windows Mobile using the waveIn/waveOut API. I managed to get playback working using the callback mechanism. However, I was very disappointed to see that I had to use buffersizes (2 buffers in use) of >> 2048 at 44.1 kHz sampling frequency to get this working without dropouts. Hence, the latency is probably >> 100 ms. And if dropouts occur, the UI does not react anymore, probably system is in CPU overload.

    My question: Has anyone managed to get audio IO running with lower buffersizes (delay)? Maybe there is a hidden API for real-time audio like kernel streaming on Win32 to support latencies below 20ms? Maybe I have to use the waveIn/waveOut in another mode than callback? Does anyone know whether Win Mobile 7.0 will support low latency audio processing?
