CRM 2011 Server Error: The category specified (Platform_Async) does not exist.


  • Hello everyone,

    I'm getting this error on a high frequency (at least once per minute) on the event log.

    The category specified (Platform_Async) does not exist.

    This error is followed by different suffixes, e.g. :

    (Reporting Process:w3wp, AppDomain:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\CRMWeb\)


    (Reporting Process:CrmAsyncService, AppDomain:C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Server\bin\)

    With a quick online search I don't get really any meaningful results, so I would like to ask here if anyone has seen these kind of erros?

    Source of the event is always MSCRMTracing.

    CRM 2011 OnPremise Rollup 18

    Any help or advice would be appreciated..

  • Hi John,

    sounds like your trace settings may not be configured correctly. Please check the value for "TraceCategories" located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSCRM

    Often the value is "*:Error" but in your case it may contain "Platform_Async" which should be "Platform.Async" (full list:
