Update Rollup 8 Issue RRS feed

  • Frage

  • Hello there,

I have tried to apply Update Rollup 8 on a customer site but I get the following error:

Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'InvoiceNumber', table 'OrganizationName_MSCRM.dbo.InvoiceBase'; column does not allow nulls. UPDATE fails.
Invalid length parameter passed to the SUBSTRING function.

The Server had Update Rollup 3 applied and it was my uderstanding that 8 could be applied without having to install 4,5,6 and 7

    Any help will be appreciated

    Kind Regards

  • Hello there,

Thank you so much for all your responses, the installation does have two organizations set up one live and one test and it is the test one that the update is having the problem with, I will try to update the Invoice Number and apply the update again.

Just another question, if I decide to apply Update Rollup 7 instead is it ok to run it on the server, even though I tried to apply Update Rollup 8 before? I did take a backup of my databases and the CRM folder beforehand but I didn't restore them after the Update Rollup failed as it didn't seem to have afected anything.

    Kind Regards

  • Hello,

I had the same problems installing UR8 on our test-system. I think the problem was that we had MS's testdata installed in the system. After deleting the invoices the update ran fine. Updating our production-system didn't make problems (but we do not use invoices).

And yes, UR7 is not a prequisite for the server portion auf MS CRM, but for the outlook client.

I hope this helps, maybe there are bugs in the MS sample data, otherwise you should open a call at MS.

    Best regards,

  • Hello,

I just read some older threads in this forum and found a more detailed description of this problem. I will try to translate the key points:

Problem is known by MS, but not wide-spreaded. Fix is assumed for UR10(!).

Using SQL Server Profiler you can find an update statement to change invoice numbers. The problems are invoice numbers that are not using the standard-format. Invoice numbers looks like INV-XXXXX-ABCD (X are numbers). The update statement fills up the numbers with leading Zeros to unify the length.

So the workaround is to unify the format before installing UR8.

Credits goes to Jürgen Oesterschlink :)

Maybe this is useful for you :).

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ana,

as Wolfgang already has mentioned, there is a bug in UR8 which occures if you have invoice numbers which are note in standard format.
In the Dynamics CRM partner forums a support engineer mentioned that they try to push out a fix for this issue with UR9 which is scheduled for the end of february.

In the meantime you can upgrade to UR7.
