Aber scheinbar gibt es (immer noch) weder ein Download noch ein Update...

Bevor man sich zu sehr freut: Ja, die Image-Library steht ab dem 30.11.2012 zum Download bereit. Allerdings habe ich beim Durchlesen der Visual Studio 2012 Image Library EULA.rtf festellen müssen, dass die Dateien nur mit nichtkommerziellen Projekten verwendet werden dürfen:

You may copy and use images, clip art, animations, sounds, music, shapes, video clips and templates provided with the software and identified for such use in documents and projects that you create. You may distribute those documents and projects non-commercially. If you wish to use these media elements or templates for any other purpose, go to www.microsoft.com/permission to learn whether that use is allowed.

Und dort steht ungefähr das Gleiche.
