Sorting resets after drilling down in the WBS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I have a master project which contains a couple of sub projects. In order to hide duplicate rows, I I remove the WBS level 1 rows using a filter. Next step is ascending sorting on the column 'Project'.

When we now open the the WBS of a subproject the sorting is reset to the default.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Meaning if we open a subproject to show more details we are not losing the sorting we set one click earlier?

    Thanks for helping out.

Instead of sorting by Project Name, why don't you just drag and drop the projects into the order in which you want to see them?  Before you expand the subprojects, drag and drop them into the right order, then you can hide the duplicate ID number.  Just a thought.  Hope this helps.

  • S.Bots,

Just for reference, you cannot eliminate duplicate task IDs from a dynamic master. Why? Because the subprojects are not actually part of the master, rather, the master contains pointers to each individual subproject so what you see at master level is each separate subproject's task ID sequence. The only IDs that belong to the master itself are the subproject summary line insertion points, and of course any tasks that are actually in the master.

If you want a unique task numbering sequence, create a static master. A static master is a snapshot in time of all the subprojects inserted into it. You can create it by un-checking the "link to project" option in the lower right on the Insert Project window. Note, that you will have to re-create a static master anytime one of the subprojects is updated/edited but this can be automated with a recorder macro.

    Hope this helps.
