ASDK(ADFS) 1907 deployment failed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

    I've been trying to redeploy the ASDK to the latest version but have not success. The error i got so far is:

    Type 'Build' of Role 'Cloud' raised an exception:

    The specified disk is not a virtual disk.

    Can someone shred some light on what should I look at?

    Thanks in advance!

  • To start, verify that your environment (especially your disks) meets the requirements outlined in the deployment planning considerations doc. Next, run the Deployment Checker for the Azure Stack Development Kit to verify. If all of these look fine, can you post the output of the following PowerShell command?

    $availableDisks = Get-Disk |? { $_.IsBoot -ne $true -and $_.IsSystem -ne $true }

    Write-Output '-------------------'

    Write-Output $availableDisks

    $availableDisks = $availableDisks |? {

                $_.NumberOfPartitions -eq 0 -or

               ($_.NumberOfPartitions -eq 1 -and $_.PartitionStyle -eq 'GPT' -and ($_ | Get-Partition).Type -eq 'Reserved')

            }

    Write-Output '-------------------'

    Write-Output $availableDisks

  • Thanks Travis,

    First of all, ASDK was deployed on the same hardware before and I've rerun the prechecker - no issue found.

    Here's the output of the Powershell command that run under AzureStack OS (Not the base OS).

  • The script that I sent only will check for unattached disks, and if you have installed the ASDK previously, the previous disk configuration should be correct.

    Can you try to rerun the installation using the GUI or by using the -rerun flag in PowerShell?

    If the same error repeats, can you send some more information about what step it was on, and what Azure Stack was doing when this error appeared?

  • Unfortunately this does not give enough information to go on. Can you gather logs of the deployment by running Get-AzurestackLog? Use this cmd to pull all deployment logs from your system:

    Get-AzureStackLog -OutputPath "C:\AzureStackLogs"

    Once you have the logs, email me at AzCommunity@microsoft.com with a link to this post and a .zip file of the logs (if possible due to size) and we will continue from there.

  • Ok, noted. Got the log output and emailed you.

    Thanks.
