Update metadata key-value pairs back to storage container blob objects RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there.

We are currently evaluating Azure Data Catalog as part of Data Governance framework. A few questions have come up.

If we register a new object from Azure Storage container, say a pdf file:

a use-case: (1) user uploads pdf file to storage container (2) user adds custom metadata to file properties using Azure portal (3) user registers file as new object in ADC (4) user adds metadata to object in ADC

    1) will ADC import the user-defined metadata that has already been applied to that file inside the container into ADC registry?

    2) once the object is registered inside ADC and new metadata is added inside ADC, does ADC propagate the new metadata back to the source file?

    thanks

  • Hi Boris_Sa011,

    1) When user published Azure Blob Storage Asset to ADC, and changes are made to files present in Azure Blob storage, the user needs to re-publish the Asset one more time for the new changes to reflect. For more info please refer to this doc: ADC - Update registrations

    2) No, ADC does not propagate the metadata back to source file.  - This is by design

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any further query.

    Thank you
