How can you save connections in Object Explorer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to save connections in Object Explorer so that each time you start Management Studio you will be automatically connected to some servers?  Ideally something similar to the way it was in SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager where the servers would be displayed and you would only have to expand them to view their info.   Instead, currently you have go to the Registered servers, right click, Connect Object explorer.

    Thanks in advance.

  • But once it is registered, you still have to right click, highlight connect, and click Object Explorer in order to establish the connection.  Is there a way that you can establish the connection without having to do that?

  • In SSMS 2008, you can double-click a registered server and it opens up in Object Explorer - pretty close. You can even double-click a server group, and all server opens in Object Explorer.

  • Double click does seem to work in 2k5 as well.  Not exactly the same but definitely a lot better than going through the extra clicks.
