Processing AAS Tabular cube using Automation Account RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are moving an on-prem ssas tabular cube to cloud AAS model. The cube tables are partitioned by date and the most recent partition is processed daily. We also process all the dimension tables full and then a process recal along with the daily partition processing.

We have researched a two options to best process the AAS cube the same way as the on prem cube.

    1. Logic App: We were able to process the cube and the partition but it uses an API call to execute the JSON, it does not log anything. the query runs on the back end so we can monitor or send alert emails on failures. Is there a way to track the query status in Azure and schedule alert emails?

    2. Azure Automation  Runbook: We created a runbook and are using powershell to process the cube and this works great but we are struggling with processing in the above mention ordered. Also, Runbooks are automatically terminated after 3 hours which means if there is a huge volume of data we run the risk of processing failure.

Is there any other better way to process the cube? I am pretty new with Azure AAS and am learning along the way so I dont know what the industry practice is. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you!
