Right practice to authorize Data Scientists to their own ML Studio environment

    Question

  • Hi,

my Enterprise Customer has an Azure contract bound to their Enterprise Agreement.

The goal now is to allow 2 data scientists to have their own ML Studio Workspace.

So the Subscription administrator created 2 ML Studio workspaces in the subscription bound to 2 identical but distinct ML WEB Service Plans and storage accounts.

The subscription admin isn't willing (correctly) to make the 2 data scientists able to access Azure portal, so what is the best practice to allow them to access just https://studio.azureml.net? More specifically I'm wondering if they can just be added as owners within ML Studio (by whom?), or if they MUST be given a specific role on the Azure portal, for their MLS Workspace.

One bonus question question please: how can another Azure Subscription Administrator, which inherits the ownership ofthe 2 MLS Workspaces, use such workspaces through https://studio.azureml.net? In fact, it looks like he can't see them at all.

Thank you very much for your help

    Mauro

  • Hi Mauro,

The Administrator can authenticate to https://studio.azureml.net and then click Settings, Users, and Invite More Users to grant access to Azure Machine Learning Studio and grant user or owner level access.

If the Administrator does not have access to multiple workspaces, whoever is the tenant admin should be able to grant owner level access.

    Thank you.
