ASDK - VM Monitor/Metrics RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've had a couple successful ASDK deployments (currently 1901) and successfully created Windows VMs, but none of them are/have been able to show monitors/metrics graphs. Is this expected behavior for the ASDK? I've ensured the Microsoft.Insight providers are enabled from the admin portal down through to the user portal subscription; but still not getting graphs to display.

What are the exact steps/procedures to get these graphs working? If there are specific agent(s) required, what exactly are the name(s) of the agents.

  • Hey Mr Jazze, I tested this for 1811 and it was not working. I am currently reinstalling my 1902 box and I will let you know if diagnostics are working once I can. If for some reason 1902 is not working as expected, I will figure out why!

For the Monitoring to work, there are 3 major parts. First, the VM must have the azure agent, and have diagnostics enabled. This installs the IaaS Diagnostic extension, which sends the VM data to Azure Stack. Azure Stack should then store the data, and it should be accessible with subscription credentials. The Last part is that the portal should be able to access the data with your login credentials, and display it on the portal. If any part of this chain is broken, the diagnostics will not appear in the portal.

If the issue is persistent with 1902, then 1901 should have the same issue and we can go from there.

  • Hi Mr Jazze,

Monitor/Metrics services is disabled in ASDK by default.

As most ASDK have limited resources (like limited memory, CPU); we want to make sure the core services have enough resources; so we disabled Monitor/Metrics service.
