How to create toolbox snippets? RRS feed

  • Question

  • According to "Professional Visual Studio 2012" by Bruce Johnson, I should be able to store blocks of code for future use in the Toolbox by selecting some text in the editor and dragging it to the Toolbox.

That doesn't work for me; if I select and drag a block of code and try to move it to the Toolbox (which is not open), the cursor's icon morphs into the dreaded "Don't Tread on Me!" (diagonally-slashed circle).

Also, the tool Johnson mentions, Snippet Editor (http://snippeteditor.codeplex.com/), has not been updated in almost 4 years and its page touts it as the New Release now supporting VS 2010. Has it been abandoned, or is a version for VS 2012 in the works?

  • The drag and drop of source text to the toolbox only works if you first open the toolbox and pin it.
