soap:ServerServer was unable to process request when opening Edit.aspx

Question

Hi there, 

Recently our users haven't been able to save items on our SharePoint site. Looking into this, when I navigate to the SharePoint Edit.aspx through Internet Explorer or Chrome, I get this error
Type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartZone' does not have a public property named 'WebPartZone'.

When I go via SharePoint Designer, I get a popup stating "The Server could not complete your request." Then I click on Details and get thissoap:ServerServer was unable to process request. ---> An unexpected error occurred while opening this page. For assistance, contact your site administrator.

Does anyone know what this is referring to and if it is recoverable? 
It is an Edit page inside a List.

Hi Patrick,

Did the issue only occur in one site or in all sites in your SharePoint environment?

Did you use default edit form or InfoPath form?

Did the issue occur when you edit the item?

To troubleshoot the issue, check things below:

1. Go to site settings-> Site Actions-> Reset to site definition, if there is no important customization in the site, you could click “Reset all pages in this site to site definition version” to reset the page to site definition.

2. Create a new site and check if the same issue will occur in new site.
